“Today’s attention-getting hues are not overly bright or cheery but they aren’t dark or disheartening either,” says Kate Smith, color expert and creator of SensationalColor.com. In her report on color trends for the home for 2011, Smith continues that colors that are rich, intense and “draw recognition in an over-saturated marketplace.” The shades in her report, similar to the newly developed Americana® colors from DecoArt, “remind us that color is personal, vibrant and infused in life.”
Each of the below shades will be launched in DecoArt’s 2-ounce signature Americana® gold-topped bottle and are available for distribution beginning December 1, 2010
New Americana Shades for 2011:
Coral Blush: Think of tropical sunsets, fuzzy peaches and fun summer days. This warm color is the perfect partner to all shades of green.
Persimmon: Ancient Greeks named it “fruit of the gods”. This warm, rich color is the perfect partner with new 2011 DecoArt colors as well as 2010’s fresh picks!
Mulberry: “Round and round the mulberry bush” makes us think of fun childhood days playing outside, picking and eating mulberries fresh off the bush tinting our fingers and mouths.
Butterscotch: Smooth, rich and candy sweet. With a hint of orange, this color evokes feelings of a warm summer evening as the sun goes down. Swinging in a rope hammock with glass of iced tea.
Wasabi: Pistachio or Mint make us think of coolness, Wasabi is warm to hot. The warm tone of Wasabi perfectly accents this palette of new colors.
Sea Glass: Waves gently roll in depositing seashells, stones and other treasures at your feet. Bits of glass, etched and polished by the sand and sea, gleam in the water’s edge just waiting to be discovered and cherished.
Purple Wave: An artist’s delight! The opposites of hot red and cool blue combine to create this intriguing color. Perfect for highlighting black and painting mid-tones on grapes, hyacinths, asters, and irises. When placed next to blue, lavender appears, and next to lavender, blue tones shine. Crafters will love it for all things Halloween and kids’ decor.
Smith goes on to say that bright, extravagant colors seen in previous years during the economic downturn did their best to lift our spirits when tough times seemed permanent. Now that financial concerns are lingering, those overt and ostentatious colors “have an over optimism that seems out of step with (…) everyday reality.”
However, lingering financial concerns will not retract customers from making small, but smart, discretionary spending choices. The seven new Americana® acrylic paint shades, all featuring the time-tested and high-quality formula the Americana® brand is known for, will be seen as an affordable luxury to crafters. According to a late 2009 Iconoculture blog post, even if “unemployment remains a drag…it might be the little indulgences…that help consumers begin to emerge from their extreme thrift.” At less than $2 MSRP, Americana® acrylic paint is an affordable “little indulgence.”
The seven new Americana® shades, as well as other DecoArt products, can be purchased by calling your DecoArt Sales Service Representative. Project ideas featuring the new 2011 Americana® colors can be found online, via DecoArt’s “Project Library.”
